The Committee for Justice (CFJ) expresses deep concern over reports indicating that a number of teachers in Al‑Jazirah State have been subjected to pressure and arbitrary measures in connection with their participation in the peaceful strike organized by education sector workers to demand their professional and living rights.
According to CFJ, some educational institutions in the city of Wad Madani have witnessed practices targeting teachers who participated in the strike, including threats of administrative and employment-related measures against them. These reports raise serious concerns that teachers may be subjected to punitive or retaliatory actions for exercising their right to peaceful protest.
The Committee for Justice affirms that the rights to trade union organization and peaceful strike action are fundamental rights recognized under international human rights and labor standards, and that individuals should not be punished or subjected to restrictions for the legitimate exercise of these rights.
CFJ believes that addressing the worsening crisis in the education sector requires a genuine response to the legitimate demands of teachers and efforts to improve their professional and living conditions, rather than resorting to intimidation, threats, or administrative sanctions.
The Committee for Justice calls on the competent authorities in Al‑Jazirah State to ensure that no teacher is subjected to any form of punishment, discrimination, or employment-related retaliation because of participation in the strike. CFJ also urges respect for trade union rights and the creation of a safe environment that guarantees the peaceful expression of professional demands.
The Committee further stresses that protecting the fundamental rights of education sector workers is essential to maintaining the stability and continuity of the educational process, and that any arbitrary measures against teachers risk deepening the existing crisis and undermining students’ right to education.
