The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the arrest by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of three volunteers affiliated with the Belil Emergency Room in Belil locality, South Darfur State, in connection with a dispute over funds allocated for humanitarian projects and support for displaced persons residing in shelters across the locality.
According to available information, the Emergency Room received financial support estimated at approximately 50 million Sudanese pounds from donors to implement projects related to water provision and assistance for displaced communities. Information indicates that RSF intelligence personnel attempted to seize the funds, a move reportedly rejected by the Emergency Room, after which three of its members were arrested: Ahmed Hussein, Abdelnour Ramadan, and Haitham Ahmed Haroun.
The three volunteers reportedly remain detained in a facility operated by the Intelligence Service in Belil locality, without any resolution of their legal status or their release. Their detention comes at a time when thousands of displaced persons in shelters across South Darfur depend on the efforts of emergency rooms and volunteers to access humanitarian assistance and essential services.
The Committee for Justice calls for the immediate release of the three volunteers unless specific charges are brought against them through lawful legal procedures. CFJ further calls for ensuring that detention or coercive measures are not used to interfere with humanitarian relief operations and assistance activities, and stresses the need to protect humanitarian workers and volunteers and enable them to carry out their duties free from threats, intimidation, or undue restrictions.
