The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a strike launched by secondary school teachers in White Nile State, starting from Sunday, 10 May 2026, until Thursday, 14 May 2026, in protest against deteriorating living conditions and what teachers described as the continued disregard for their professional and humanitarian rights.
According to the information documented, the decision to strike was taken following a vote and consensus within the Secondary School Commissioners’ Office in the state, reflecting growing frustration among educational staff due to harsh economic conditions and the deterioration of the working environment.
CFJ noted that the ongoing decline in living standards and low income levels, in contrast to rising costs of living, have driven teachers to escalate through a peaceful strike as a means of demanding their rights.
The Committee for Justice calls on the relevant authorities to urgently respond to teachers’ demands and address the root causes of the crisis related to wages and the educational environment, in a manner that ensures the stability of the educational process and safeguards the rights of both students and teachers.
CFJ also stressed the importance of respecting the right to strike and peaceful expression, and urged an end to any measures that could restrict workers in the education sector or undermine their trade union activity.
