Sudan: Committee for Justice Condemns Escalating Attacks on Civilians in Dilling and Kauda, Calls for Protection and Opening Humanitarian Corridors

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has condemned the escalating attacks and violations targeting civilians in the cities of Dilling and Kauda in South Kordofan State, which have resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, including women and children, amid a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian and health situation.

CFJ documented the killing of six civilians and the injury of 15 others, including six women, as a result of artillery shelling that targeted the city of Dilling, affecting areas around the central market and the main bus station, as well as a number of volunteers engaged in humanitarian work while preparing food for displaced persons, according to the Sudan Doctors Network.

Available information indicates that the shelling targeted densely populated civilian areas, amid continued attacks on residential neighborhoods, markets, and civilian facilities, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the city, particularly in light of the collapse of health services and shortages of medical supplies.

CFJ also documented the killing of more than 61 people in Kauda and its surrounding areas, including nine children and five women, in connection with clashes and violence of a tribal nature, according to testimonies from survivors and field reports.

According to these accounts, areas around Kauda witnessed extrajudicial killings, beheadings, and the burning of homes and shops, in addition to widespread looting, leading to large‑scale displacement and a state of panic among civilians.

The Committee for Justice expressed deep concern over the growing violations against civilians in South Kordofan, calling on all parties to the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law and to cease attacks on civilian areas and critical infrastructure.

CFJ also called for the opening of safe humanitarian corridors to evacuate the wounded and deliver aid, ensuring the protection of civilians—particularly women and children—and the conduct of independent investigations into the violations, with accountability for those responsible.
