Libya: Committee for Justice Documents the Continued Enforced Disappearance of an Activist in Derna and Calls for Disclosure of His Fate

Less than 1 minute Reading Time: Minutes

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the continued enforced disappearance of activist Bouabbas Al‑Mansouri since 7 May 2026, following his detention by the Internal Security Agency in the city of Derna in eastern Libya, before being transferred to its headquarters in Benghazi, without being presented to any investigative authority.

According to CFJ’s documentation, his arrest was carried out in connection with his criticism of what he described as the neglect of complaints and grievances submitted by residents affected by floods and beneficiaries of housing allocations in the city of Derna.

The Committee for Justice stated that his continued detention without disclosure of his legal status or allowing his family to communicate with him raises serious concerns regarding the risk of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance.

CFJ emphasized that such practices constitute a violation of freedom of opinion and expression and the right to participate in public affairs, in addition to contradicting legal and constitutional safeguards protecting individuals from detention outside the framework of the law.

The Committee for Justice calls for the immediate disclosure of the fate and whereabouts of activist Bouabbas Al‑Mansouri, ensuring his physical and legal safety, and his release unless charges are brought against him in accordance with legal procedures that guarantee all his rights and fair trial standards.
