Egypt: Committee for Justice Documents Strike by Samannoud Textile and Wool Workers Demanding Restoration of Health Insurance Services

Reading Time: Less than 1 minute Minutes

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a strike by workers at the Samannoud Textile and Wool Company in Gharbia Governorate, protesting the suspension of health insurance services since January 2026 and demanding their reinstatement.

According to CFJ’s documentation, workers have refused to end the strike despite assurances from the company’s management that the issue would be resolved, stressing that their protest will continue until health insurance services are fully restored. Testimonies from female workers also indicated that individuals affiliated with security agencies were present around the company premises in an attempt to persuade workers to end the strike.

CFJ further reported that more than 600 workers, the majority of them women, have been deprived of health insurance and medical treatment services despite the continued deduction of insurance contributions from their salaries. The situation has particularly affected workers suffering from chronic illnesses or those in need of surgical procedures.

The Committee for Justice emphasizes that the rights to healthcare and peaceful protest are fundamental rights. It calls for the crisis to be addressed urgently in a manner that guarantees workers access to the health services to which they are entitled and ensures respect for their right to peacefully express their labor-related demands.
