Press Release

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored a court ruling issued by the 40th Labor Division of North Cairo on September 25, 2024, dismissing the lawsuit filed by Nasr General Contracting (Hassan Allam) against union activist Talal Atef El-Sayed.

El-Sayed, along with others, was accused of participating in a strike that allegedly harmed state interests and caused damage to the company’s property, as part of labor case no. 1883 of 2019.

The incident dates back to March 6, 2019, when El-Sayed and several colleagues went to the company’s administrative headquarters in the Abbasiya district to inquire about delays in receiving their financial entitlements. In response, the company filed a report (no. 1311, Al-Waily Administrative, 2019) accusing them of inciting a strike, disrupting operations, and causing damage to company property. Following this, El-Sayed and seven of his colleagues were arrested and held in pretrial detention for nearly two months before being released on bail.

CFJ expresses its full solidarity with Talal El-Sayed and calls for respecting judicial rulings and halting the security-based approach to labor movements. CFJ emphasized the importance of opening dialogue channels between management and workers to resolve disputes.
