Press Release

The “Committee for Justice,” along with “Adala for All” and the “EuroMed rights,” will participate in an event on Wednesday, September 11, focused on freedom of expression in Tunisia in light of the upcoming presidential elections. The event is organized by Digital Democracy Now.

The event’s promotional material highlighted that as Tunisia approaches the presidential elections, concerns about the state of freedom of expression in the country have become increasingly urgent. Tunisia, once seen as a beacon of democratic progress in the Arab world after the 2011 revolution, is now witnessing a concerning decline in political openness and freedom.

The promotional content also warned that recent developments have raised alarms, particularly concerning the impact of the electoral process on freedom of expression and press freedom.

Additionally, the event will explore the broader implications of restrictions on these freedoms for the future of the democratic process in Tunisia.

The event will be moderated by the Executive Director of CFJ, Ahmed Mefreh, and will feature participants such as Tunisian lawyer Ibrahim Balgith (from “Adala for All”), advocacy director Sara Prestianni (from the “EuroMed rights”), and writer and human rights activist Hatem Nafti.

The event will take place at 12:00 PM Geneva time, in Room XXV at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. It will be conducted in both Arabic and English, with translation services available.
