Egypt: Committee for Justice Documents the Death of Political Detainee Mohamed Samir Inside Wadi El‑Natrun Prison

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of political detainee Mohamed Samir, 45, from the city of Abu Zaabal in Qalyubia Governorate, inside Wadi El‑Natrun Prison (Rehabilitation 9), where he was serving a life sentence.

According to available information, Mohamed Samir’s health condition deteriorated severely during his final days in detention before his death was announced inside the prison.

With this case, the number of deaths documented by the Committee for Justice since the beginning of 2026 inside prisons and detention facilities in Egypt has risen to 45 deaths, following the documentation of 60 deaths during 2025.
