Press Release

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored a new ruling from the Court of First Instance’s Misdemeanor Division in Tunis, issued on Thursday, October 24, 2024, sentencing lawyer and media figure Sania El-Dahmani to two years in prison based on Decree No. 54, as confirmed by her lawyer, Sami Ben Ghazi.

Her lawyer, Ben Ghazi, had previously explained in a Facebook post that this case stemmed from statements Dahmani made on the local radio station IFM, in which she pointed out instances of racial discrimination in Tunisia and condemned the phenomenon.

He also mentioned in the same post that the Tunisian Public Prosecution initiated the case independently, referring the matter for investigation. Dahmani had previously been allowed to remain free following similar comments she made on the local private television channel Carthage+.

CFJ renews its full support for lawyer and media personality Sania El-Dahmani and calls on Tunisian authorities to drop all charges and rulings against her, release her without conditions, and stop any intentional targeting of her.
