Geneva – March 31, 2024

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has expressed grave concerns over the investigation of human rights lawyer Sania El-Dahmani in Tunisia. El-Dahmani, a prominent defender of human rights, has been summoned by the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Tunis to appear before the investigating judge of the Court of First Instance on charges related to her statements.

According to El-Dahmani’s statements on her Facebook page, she has been made aware of the charges against her, which allegedly stem from her remarks on FM waves.

CFJ has strongly condemned what it perceives as arbitrary measures against El-Dahmani, asserting that her statements, though expressing her opinion, should not warrant legal action that compromises her rights as a human rights defender. The organization has called upon Tunisian authorities to cease targeting El-Dahmani for her opinions and to uphold principles of freedom of expression.
