Egypt: CFJ stands in solidarity with Nile Co. for Roads and Bridges workers on strike for minimum wage implementation

Workers at the Nile Road and Bridges Company in the Al-Sawah area of Cairo continue their strike, initiated on March 27th, demanding the implementation of the minimum wage set by President Sisi at 6000 Egyptian pounds per month.

The company’s management suspended ten workers from work in response to the strike, per a statement issued on March 31st.

The Nile General Company for Roads and Bridges is one of the holding companies for road, bridge, and land transport projects under the Ministry of Transport. According to statements by the Egyptian Minister of Transport, the company achieved profits of 15.890 billion Egyptian pounds in 2023, a 96.1% increase from the previous year.

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) reaffirms its solidarity with the company’s workers in their strike, considering it their legal and constitutional right. CFJ urges the company’s management to positively engage with the workers’ demands and reach satisfactory solutions for all parties to ensure fair working conditions.
