Press Release
The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has reported a series of severe violations against Tunisian human rights lawyer and media figure Sania El-Dahmani, currently detained in Manouba Prison, according to her sister, Ramla El-Dahmani.
Ramla stated that the prison administration deliberately harmed her sister by tampering with food sent by the family under the pretext of inspection procedures or completely preventing it from reaching her. She also noted that these violations extended to other inmates, who suffered from hunger over the weekend due to such practices.
Sania El-Dahmani is widely recognized for her advocacy for freedoms and human rights, and her case has garnered significant attention from the public and civil society organizations. This has increased pressure on Tunisian authorities to take serious measures to address these violations.
CFJ describes these practices as a form of “systematic psychological torture,” asserting that they constitute a clear violation of Tunisian national laws and international standards that guarantee the dignity and rights of prisoners.
CFJ calls on Tunisian authorities to urgently investigate the conditions of El-Dahmani’s detention, ensure her psychological and physical safety, and hold those responsible for these violations accountable. The committee emphasizes that such actions undermine trust in Tunisia’s judicial system and raise concerns about fundamental freedoms in the country.
