The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the deaths of more than 215 detainees inside Dagris Prison in the city of Nyala, South Darfur State, during May and June 2026, amid the continued deterioration of detention conditions and the spread of diseases and epidemics, raising growing concerns regarding the welfare of detainees held at the facility.
According to information documented by CFJ, 31 detainees, including children, were transferred from Dagris Prison to Nyala Hospital more than two weeks ago. Their fate remains unknown, and no information has been disclosed regarding their whereabouts or health conditions, giving rise to serious concerns for their safety.
Available information indicates that civilians continue to be held in conditions that fall short of minimum healthcare and humanitarian standards, while repeated reports have emerged concerning ill‑treatment and the denial of medical care to detainees, contributing to the rising number of deaths inside the prison.
The Committee for Justice calls for the immediate disclosure of the fate of the detainees transferred from Dagris Prison, ensuring that all detainees receive the necessary medical care, and granting independent humanitarian and monitoring bodies access to places of detention, in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
