The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the arrest of teacher Ali Ibrahim Al‑Zubair, known as “Ali Al‑Zubair,” from his home in the city of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, on 9 September 2026, after he was taken to the premises of the security committee.
According to information reported by the Sudanese Teachers’ Committee, Ali Al‑Zubair’s arrest was linked to his advocacy for the payment of teachers’ salary arrears and the improvement of their employment conditions. The Committee stated that his detention is inconsistent with fundamental human rights principles, including the rights to freedom of expression and the peaceful pursuit of legitimate professional demands.
The Committee for Justice condemned the restrictive measures directed against civilians, particularly teachers, and held the responsible security authorities fully accountable for Ali Al‑Zubair’s safety and well‑being during his detention.
CFJ stressed that the rights to freedom of expression, association, and the peaceful defense of professional and economic rights are fundamental rights that should be respected and protected, including during periods of armed conflict.
The Committee for Justice calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Ali Al‑Zubair, the disclosure of the legal basis for his detention, and guarantees that teachers and other civilians are not subjected to arrest or harassment because of their peaceful advocacy for their rights. The Committee further urges respect for the rights of educators and civil society actors to organize and express their views without fear of retaliation.
