The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the launch of a phased strike by teachers in Al‑Jazirah State, beginning on 14 June 2026, with plans to escalate into a comprehensive open‑ended strike starting on 28 June, in protest against deteriorating economic and living conditions and in demand of improved professional conditions and the fulfillment of their demands.
According to CFJ’s documentation, teachers stated that the decision to strike came after exhausting all available means of communication with relevant authorities in the state without reaching solutions to address the challenges facing those working in the education sector.
Teachers indicated that the strike would be implemented gradually over a two‑week period according to a specific schedule, before transitioning to a full strike. They clarified that the measure includes attending schools while refraining from performing educational and administrative duties, including teaching, supervision, and exam marking.
Teachers also reported that the sharp rise in the cost of living and transportation has hindered their ability to reach workplaces and continue performing their duties, amid the difficult economic conditions facing the country.
The Committee for Justice noted that the continued economic deterioration and its direct impact on education sector workers has a negative effect on the stability of the educational process and on students’ right to education, at a time when the sector is already facing growing challenges due to the ongoing conflict.
CFJ stressed the importance of taking urgent measures to address teachers’ conditions and ensure their economic and social rights, in a manner that contributes to protecting the continuity and stability of the educational process.
