The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a significant escalation in violations against civilians across several regions of Sudan, amid reports of killings and drone attacks that have resulted in deaths and injuries among civilians, including children, women, and internally displaced persons, as military operations continue and risks to populations in inhabited areas increase.
According to information documented by CFJ, in the Al‑Mazroub area of North Kordofan State, four civilians from the same family were reportedly killed by members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on 5 and 6 October 2026. The victims were identified as Abdel Bagi Suleiman Hassan, Ahmed Al‑Jaili Blouh, Al‑Amin Habib Nasser, and his son Mohamed Al‑Amin Habib. The killings reportedly followed the storming of the family’s home and an attempted looting of their property. The incident raises serious concerns regarding the growing pattern of attacks on civilians and civilian property amid continued impunity for such violations.
In a separate incident in Al‑Mazroub, approximately five children were killed and seven others injured when a drone strike hit an area near a water source during military developments involving the entry of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and allied Joint Forces into the area. Available information suggests that the drone may have been operated by the RSF, although no independent confirmation of responsibility has been established. The attack has heightened concerns over the transformation of populated civilian areas into active military zones, particularly following recent waves of displacement from the region.
In the Blue Nile Region, a drone strike targeting a displacement shelter in Wad Al‑Mahi locality on 9 October 2026 reportedly killed more than 30 displaced persons and injured others, the majority of whom were women and children. CFJ also documented that the death toll from a separate drone attack in the Abu Shendi area of the region rose to 41 fatalities.
According to information documented by the Committee, drone attacks also struck civilian objects in the city of Al‑Damazin, Blue Nile Region, during the early hours of 7 October 2026. The attacks reportedly hit residential homes and a mosque in the Al‑Hijra neighborhood, killing four women and injuring dozens of civilians. These incidents represent a direct threat to civilian life and raise serious concerns regarding the expanding scope of attacks against civilian areas throughout the region.
In Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, at least four individuals, including a child, were killed when a drone strike targeted the livestock market shortly before noon on 16 October 2026. The injured were transferred to Nyala Teaching Hospital for treatment. The attack has further intensified concerns regarding the impact of ongoing hostilities on civilians in markets and other densely populated locations.
The Committee for Justice stresses that the killing of civilians and attacks that place their lives at risk, including strikes on homes, displacement sites, markets, and water sources, constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law, which obliges all parties to armed conflict to protect civilians and civilian objects.
CFJ calls for urgent, independent, and impartial investigations into all of these incidents, the identification and prosecution of those responsible, and the immediate cessation of attacks that threaten civilian lives. The Committee also urges all parties to ensure the protection of civilians, displaced persons, and their property, and to take meaningful steps to end impunity for serious violations committed during the conflict.
