Press release

Geneva – July 2, 2024

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored that the General Intelligence Service in Sennar state arrested Imam and preacher of “Wad Al-Basha” Mosque in the city of Sennar, Zain Salem Ambada, in mid-June for the second time. Ambada is known for his humanitarian work and calls for ending the war.

The intelligence service in Sennar state previously detained Ambada in December last year for over four months without pressing any charges. Additionally, he was arbitrarily dismissed from his position at the General Court in Sennar.

CFJ condemns the ongoing targeting and re-arrest of activist Ambada, urging the General Intelligence Service in Sennar state to release him immediately and unconditionally and to cease targeting his humanitarian and relief efforts.
