This group is the “terrorist organization The Muslim Brotherhood,” in the case known in the media as “The Joker.” The court sentenced 38 defendants, including the contractor Mohamed Ali, to life imprisonment. Five defendants were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, 16 defendants to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment, and 21 defendants were acquitted. Twenty-three individuals were sentenced to imprisonment terms ranging from 5 years to 15 years. The court ordered the defendants sentenced to probation under police supervision for five years, starting from the expiration of their monetary penalties, except for the defendants who were sentenced to pay criminal expenses. The court also ordered the confiscation of firearms, white weapons, ammunition, and seized tools.
The State Security Prosecution charged the defendants in the Joker case with committing crimes related to joining a terrorist group established against the provisions of the law with the aim of undermining the constitution and laws, obstructing the state’s institutions and authorities from performing their duties, and spreading false news about the political and economic situation in the country to disrupt public peace.
