Press Release

The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has documented blatant violations against Egyptian economist Abd El-Khaleq Farouk during his detention at 10th Ramadan Prison in Sharqia.

Egyptian authorities arrested Farouk (67 years old) in late October on charges of spreading false information and belonging to a banned group. This comes amid warnings from his wife about the deterioration of his health after authorities denied him access to necessary medical treatment.

CFJ also reported that Farouk is isolated from the outside world, allowed only one hour of outdoor exercise per day, and has been deprived of access to newspapers or books.

A group of activists has launched a signature campaign to advocate for Farouk’s release, calling on all segments of Egyptian society—including the general public, writers, intellectuals, and artists—to demand his immediate release.

CFJ reaffirms its solidarity with Abdel Khaleq Farouk, calling on Egyptian authorities to release him or apply alternatives to pretrial detention, considering his worsening health and advanced age.
