The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of lawyer Nagah Mohamed Mabrouk Al‑Taher while in detention at Minya Liman Prison, following a critical deterioration in his health condition resulting from severe kidney failure.
According to available information, Mabrouk’s health condition had significantly worsened in recent months, as he required regular medical treatment and specialized hospital care. His condition continued to deteriorate until his death on 28 September 2026.
The Committee for Justice stresses the importance of ensuring that all detainees have access to adequate and timely healthcare, particularly those suffering from chronic or life-threatening illnesses, and calls for transparency regarding deaths occurring in places of detention.
With this case, the number of deaths documented by the Committee for Justice since the beginning of 2026 inside prisons and detention facilities in Egypt has risen to 55 deaths, following the documentation of 60 deaths during 2025.
