Sudan: Committee for Justice Documents the Killing of More Than 60 Civilians in Drone Strikes Across Kordofan, Darfur, and Sennar and Calls for an End to Attacks on Civilian Objects

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a significant escalation in drone attacks across the states of Kordofan, Darfur, and Sennar on 15 and 16 February 2026, resulting in the deaths of more than 60 people and dozens of injuries, including women and children, amid the ongoing armed conflict and worsening humanitarian conditions.

In Al‑Sunut, West Kordofan State, reports confirmed the killing of 26 civilians, including 9 women and 12 children, after a drone strike targeted the veterinary building, which displaced families had been using as a shelter. According to eyewitness accounts, the attack occurred close to midnight, causing a high number of casualties among civilians seeking refuge at the site.

In North Kordofan, information indicates that 28 people were killed and dozens injured after drone strikes targeted the Al‑Safiya market northeast of Sudri locality, at a time when the market was crowded with civilians—including women, children, and the elderly—exacerbating the scale of the losses.

CFJ also documented reports that three civilians were killed and seven injured in Sennar State, following a strike attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that targeted the Al‑Mazmoum Hospital.

The committee stressed that targeting shelter centers, markets, and medical facilities or their surroundings constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction and proportionality, which require the protection of civilians and civilian objects during armed conflicts.

CFJ called on all parties to the conflict to immediately cease the use of drones in populated areas, refrain from targeting civilian infrastructure under any justification, and ensure independent and transparent investigations into all incidents. The committee further urged that those responsible be held accountable and that effective measures be adopted without delay to protect civilians and prevent further bloodshed.
