The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a strike by workers at the Sohag branch of Modern Gas, a natural gas company, in solidarity with their colleagues at the Qena branch who continue their protests demanding the cancellation of subcontracting agreements issued by the Arab Institution for Supplies and Contracting.
According to CFJ, the striking workers are calling for direct employment with Modern Gas and an end to monthly deductions imposed by the administration on their wages.
Workers stated that they have been employed at the company for nearly ten years under annually renewed subcontracting contracts with the Arab Institution, which deducts around EGP 1,300 per month from their salaries as a fee for contracting with Modern Gas.
CFJ expressed full solidarity with Modern Gas workers in Sohag, stressing the importance of addressing their demands and fulfilling their legitimate rights, particularly those related to direct employment. The committee reaffirmed the need to protect workers’ rights, ensure equal treatment, and uphold their dignity.
