The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored that former Tunisian Justice Minister Noureddine Bhiri has been transferred to the hospital following a deterioration in his health due to a hunger strike he began 17 days ago in protest against his arbitrary detention.

His wife, Saida Akremi, confirmed that he was moved to the intensive care unit at “La Rabta” Hospital in Tunis after his condition worsened. Bhiri, a senior leader of the Ennahda Movement, initiated the hunger strike to protest what he considers unjust imprisonment.

On June 25, the Chief Investigating Judge at the Tunis First Instance Court issued an arrest warrant for Bhiri in connection with the investigation into the death of former MP Jilani Daboussi.
CFJ holds the Tunisian authorities fully responsible for Bhiri’s deteriorating health, urging them to ensure he receives comprehensive medical care. CFJ is also calling for his immediate release and an end to the political targeting of Bhiri due to his political activities.
