The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the detention of Asaad Zheyou, Head of the Libyan National Gathering Party and a member of the Structured Dialogue Track, by the Internal Security Agency in Tripoli.
According to CFJ’s documentation, the detention took place in connection with political activities and party‑related affairs, before Zheyou was later released following the completion of investigation procedures.
The Committee for Justice noted that such incidents raise concerns regarding the safety of the political environment and freedom of party activity, particularly amid increasing complaints related to detentions linked to opinion and public engagement.
CFJ calls for ensuring the protection of political actors and civilians from arbitrary measures, adherence to legal safeguards guaranteeing freedom of opinion, expression, and political activity, and the necessity that any detentions be subject to clear and transparent judicial oversight.
