On February 20, 2022, the United Nations expert on human rights in Sudan, Adama Deng, will begin his first official visit to the country, a month after the visit was postponed at the request of the Sudanese authorities.

During his visit, which will take place from February 20 to 24, 2022, Deng will meet with senior Sudanese government officials, representatives of civil society organizations, human rights defenders, heads of United Nations entities, and diplomats.

Deng was appointed as a UN expert on human rights in Sudan by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in November 2021, in accordance with UN Human Rights Council Resolution S-32/1, to monitor the human rights situation in Sudan since the military coup in October 25, 2021.

The UN expert is scheduled to hold a press conference at the end of his visit on February 24, at the headquarters of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Khartoum, at 09:30 am local time.
