Geneva – May 6, 2024

The specialized unit of the National Guard at El Aouina Barracks in Tunisia has released journalist and information freedom activist Khouloud Mabrouk after questioning her regarding her hosting of a suspect in a well-known “conspiracy” case, despite an order prohibiting discussion of the matter.

Mabrouk stated in a post-departure statement from the National Guard unit that the investigations lasted for hours by the Fifth Central Unit for Combating Information Technology Crimes and Communication of the National Guard in El Aouina.

She also confirmed that the questions posed to her by the unit were numerous, without addressing the specific topics she was asked about, and extended her thanks to the lawyers who accompanied her.

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) rejects investigating journalist Khouloud Mabrouk in matters related to her journalistic work, urging authorities to uphold press freedom and media in the country, and to provide a suitable climate for her to exercise her journalistic and media work freely.
