News release

The ” Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has monitored the worsening health condition of journalist and human rights defender in Tunisia, Mohamed Bou Ghaleb, during his detention, amid union calls for appropriate living conditions to prevent this serious health decline.

– Serious deterioration:

The Tunisian Journalists’ Union confirmed in a statement that Bou Ghaleb has been suffering since his detention in March, amidst deliberate neglect by the prison administration regarding his chronic illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes. The prison has failed to provide necessary medication or alternatives.

The union added in its statement that Bou Ghaleb remains deprived of communication with his family, including through written correspondence.

– Calls for the Ministry of Justice to intervene:

CFJ reaffirms its full solidarity with Bou Ghaleb regarding his deteriorating health and calls on the Tunisian authorities to provide the necessary healthcare, medication, and appropriate living conditions to stop the dangerous decline in his health.

CFJ also urges the Tunisian Ministry of Justice to urgently intervene, monitor Bou Ghaleb’s health, allow him to be sent to a hospital for examination, and ensure he receives the required medical care. CFJ holds the ministry responsible for any complications arising from the delay in addressing Bou Ghaleb’s health situation properly.
