Press Release
The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has observed that Tunisian authorities detained Abdallah Al-Saeed, president of the “Children of the Moon” association, on November 12th for investigations conducted by the Economic Research Unit in El Gorjani.
This action appears to be connected to Al-Saeed’s humanitarian efforts focused on supporting refugee, migrant, and unaccompanied children, with no specific charges presented thus far.
CFJ noted that the “Children of the Moon” association, under Al-Saeed’s leadership, operates in the Medenine region, providing care and support for vulnerable children, including refugees and migrants.
The committee also pointed out that Al-Saeed had previously been subjected to hate and racist campaigns on social media due to his humanitarian activities, reflecting a broader environment of restrictions targeting civil society and human rights organizations.
CFJ considers the detention of Al-Saeed part of a series of practices described as “criminalizing solidarity,” a trend that began after the National Security Council meeting in May 2024. This meeting led to a wave of arrests and legal actions against activists without scheduling court hearings to address their cases.
The committee denounces the arbitrary measures taken against Abdallah Al-Saeed, calls for his immediate release, and emphasizes the need for a safe and enabling environment for humanitarian and human rights work in Tunisia, free from harassment and legal persecution.
