Press Release

The human rights activist and member of the Tunisian Association for Justice and Equality “Damj,” Saif El-Dine Al-Ayadi, received a summons on the morning of November 13, to appear before the Second Unit for Combating Crime in Ben Arous on November 14, under suspicion.

This summons coincides with similar measures targeting journalist Khawla Boukriem, activist Asrar Ben Jouira, and activists Wael Nawar and Maher Al-Kouki, for investigations concerning movements opposing the referendum conducted on July 18, 2022.

The investigation also extends to journalist Mohamed Yassine Jelassi, “Damj” member and member of the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women, Nawras Douzi, as well as Khalil Al-Zghidi, head of the Tunisian League for Human Rights branch in Bardo.

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) condemns these arbitrary measures and summonses of activists, viewing them as part of a systematic campaign aimed at restricting the civic space and undermining public freedoms in the country, foremost among them freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest.

CFJ reiterates full support for all individuals targeted by these measures, demands an immediate end to such practices, and calls for an environment that allows these activists to pursue their legitimate and peaceful human rights activities.
