Press release
Geneva – June 25, 2024
On June 10, the investigative judge at the Tunis Primary Court rejected the request for the release of human rights lawyer Mehdi Zagrouba, who faces charges related to an alleged assault on two security personnel at the court.
Zagrouba was detained on May 12, and on May 15, the public prosecutor issued a detention order against him and opened three investigations: two concerning the alleged assault on security personnel at the court, and a third concerning an alleged assault on a security officer during a police raid at the Lawyer’s House in Tunis.
The Committee for Justice (CFJ) condemns these arbitrary measures against Zagrouba, which appear to stem from his professional and human rights activities and his defense of freedoms. CFJ calls for his immediate and unconditional release and an end to his targeting.
