Geneva – July 29, 2024

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored the death of humanitarian activist Ismail Tiben in the Al-Fashir region of Sudan on July 28, 2024. Tiben was killed due to artillery shelling by the RSF militia on the Al-Fashir market “Hajar Gado,” the livestock market, and the Olad Al-Radif neighborhood.

Ismail Tiben was a dedicated humanitarian and a volunteer initiative leader working in shelter kitchens. He was also a member of the “Allah Yabaridi” initiative, which aims to provide assistance to all residents of Al-Fashir and collect donations to support the kitchens in the city’s shelters.

CFJ condemns the killing of Ismail Tiben and calls on all parties involved in the Sudanese conflict to cease targeting civilians and activists. CFJ also demands impartial and swift investigations into Tiben’s death and the artillery shelling of the Al-Fashir market by the Rapid Support Forces, which resulted in 22 fatalities and 17 injuries. The committee urges accountability for those responsible for this tragedy.
