Sudan: Committee for Justice Welcomes the Release of Journalist Abdel Majeed Abdel Hamid and Calls for the Protection of Press Freedom

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) welcomed the release of journalist Abdel Majeed Abdel Hamid, following several hours of detention by the Sudanese authorities.

According to information documented by CFJ, Abdel Majeed Abdel Hamid was detained in connection with his journalistic activities and the publication of an article on social media platforms, before being released later the same day.

The Committee for Justice emphasized that freedom of the press and freedom of expression are fundamental rights that must be respected and protected. CFJ called on the authorities to refrain from using detention or arrest as a means of responding to journalistic activities and to ensure that journalists are able to carry out their work without intimidation or undue restrictions, in accordance with international human rights standards.
