Sudan: Committee for Justice Documents the Enforced Disappearance and Arbitrary Arrest of Three Brothers and Calls for Disclosure of Their Fate

Less than 1 minute Reading Time: Minutes

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented grave violations against three brothers—Abdelrahman, Mohamed, and Badri Ibrahim Badri Abdullah—including arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance carried out by both parties to the conflict in Sudan, amid the absence of legal safeguards and the continued climate of impunity.

According to available information, Abdelrahman Ibrahim was arrested by the army‑affiliated security cell on 20 May 2025 from his home in Iskan Al‑Safwa neighborhood in Omdurman. He was subsequently forcibly disappeared at a site inside a church in Al‑Arab neighborhood, before being transferred to Omdurman Prison and later to Soba Prison, on allegations of cooperating with the Rapid Support Forces. He remained forcibly disappeared for 11 months before being released in a severely deteriorated physical and psychological condition as a result of his detention.

In a related case, Mohamed Badri was arrested by the Rapid Support Forces on 20 August 2025 in the city of Bara, North Kordofan State. He was forcibly disappeared before being transferred to Nyala, where he was detained in Kober Prison in Nyala. His fate remains unknown to date.

The Rapid Support Forces also arrested the eldest brother, Badri Ibrahim, on 25 August 2025 in the Um Qarfa area, North Kordofan State. He was forcibly disappeared and transferred to Nyala, where he is currently held in Dagaris Prison under conditions that fall far below minimum humanitarian standards, with no available information regarding his current situation.

CFJ stated that these incidents reflect a deeply concerning pattern of using detention sites outside the legal framework and depriving detainees of their basic rights, including the right to know their place of detention, to communicate with their families, and to receive a fair trial.

The information also indicates that the victims’ family was subjected to fraud and financial extortion during their attempts to learn the fate of their sons, exploiting the state of uncertainty and distress, thereby compounding the suffering of the affected family.

The Committee for Justice calls for the immediate disclosure of the fate of the detainees, ensuring their safety, enabling them to communicate with their families and lawyers, ending practices of enforced disappearance and arbitrary detention, subjecting all places of detention to legal oversight, and holding those responsible for these violations accountable.
