The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the targeting of the Um Rawaba Court in North Kordofan State by a drone strike on 8 September 2026, in an attack attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). According to preliminary information, the attack resulted in the killing of 10 people and the injury of dozens of others, in an incident affecting a judicial facility and raising concerns about the safety of court personnel and members of the public accessing judicial services amid the ongoing conflict.
CFJ strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing that the targeting of civilians and judicial institutions threatens the functioning of justice mechanisms and endangers judges, court staff, and litigants. The Committee noted that attacks against civilian judicial facilities constitute a serious violation of the rules protecting civilian objects and the individuals working within them during armed conflicts.
The Committee for Justice calls for an immediate end to attacks targeting civilians and civilian and judicial facilities, and urges the launch of an independent and transparent investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack on the court and identify those responsible.
CFJ further calls for ensuring the necessary protection of justice sector personnel, court users, and judicial institutions throughout Sudan, in accordance with the protections afforded under international humanitarian law and relevant legal standards.
