The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the abduction of eight women and girls, including minors, while traveling from the city of Tawila in North Darfur State to eastern Sudan, in an incident that reflects the continuing violations targeting civilians in conflict-affected areas.
According to statements made by a relative of the victims’ family to local media outlets, contact with the women was lost after they left Tawila in early July via the route linking Kordofan and the city of Al‑Dabbah. The relative added that the family later learned that the victims had been transferred to the city of El Fasher, and accused elements affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of holding them.
According to the same source, the abductors demanded a ransom of 96 billion Sudanese pounds in exchange for the release of the women, at a rate of 12 billion Sudanese pounds per person, including the underage girls. The source indicated that the women remain in captivity, according to information received by their family.
The Committee for Justice calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all abducted women and girls, and for guarantees of their physical and psychological safety. CFJ also calls for an independent investigation into the circumstances of the incident and accountability for those responsible, in order to ensure the protection of civilians and put an end to crimes of abduction and unlawful detention in conflict-affected areas.
