Press Release

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored the death of Sudanese TV cameraman Hatem Mamoun, who passed away on Tuesday, September 24th, in Cairo, Egypt, from severe injuries sustained while covering the visit of Sudanese Armed Forces Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to the Gebeit military camp in eastern Sudan on July 31st.

Mamoun had been working with several Sudanese media outlets, most notably “Sudania 24” channel, and was injured while performing his duties.

CFJ strongly condemns any attacks on journalists and media personnel during their professional duties, emphasizing the need to shield journalists and media outlets from attacks or risks during armed conflicts. CFJ calls on both sides of the conflict in Sudan to provide necessary protection for journalists and ensure a safe working environment. The committee also urges for an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident, holding accountable those responsible for targeting civilians and journalists, and ensuring they do not escape punishment.
