Press Release
The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the detention of Sudanese journalist Ikhlas Khalifa by forces affiliated with the “Rapid Support Forces” (RSF) during her journey from White Nile State to Port Sudan in the Red Sea State over two months ago.
In this context, the “Sudanese Journalists’ Syndicate” confirmed in a statement that this incident reflects the ongoing violations faced by journalists and media workers in Sudan amidst the war and prevailing security tensions. These circumstances pose a serious threat to press freedom and the safety of journalists.
CFJ expresses concern over the continued detention of journalist Ikhlas Khalifa, holds the RSF fully accountable for her safety, and demands her immediate and unconditional release.
The committee also urges both parties to the conflict in Sudan to ensure a safe environment for journalists, enabling them to carry out their professional duties with neutrality and independence, free from threats and intimidation. CFJ emphasizes that safeguarding press freedom and journalists’ rights is a national and international responsibility that cannot be overlooked.
