Press Release
On November 3, the Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored a deteriorating humanitarian situation in the town of Al-Hilaliya, located on the eastern bank of the Blue Nile in Al-Jazira State, approximately 120 kilometers south of Khartoum. The continued siege imposed by Rapid Support Forces militias has severely impacted the area.
– Lack of basic necessities:
Civilians trapped in the besieged town are experiencing severe hardship, with the siege resulting in numerous deaths due to shortages of food, water, and healthcare. The death toll has risen to over 20, including cases of poisoning and illnesses caused by contaminated water. As injuries and health issues among the trapped civilians increase, fears grow over their worsening health conditions, as they lack medical care and emergency assistance.
– Calls to lift the siege:
CFJ is calling on international actors in Sudan to intervene to end the siege on Al-Hilaliya and to protect its residents from widespread violations. The committee also urges RSF officials to respect international humanitarian laws, lift the siege on the town, and safeguard civilians from the ravages of conflict. CFJ emphasized its ongoing monitoring of conditions within Al-Hilaliya and commitment to documenting violations and identifying those responsible to prevent future impunity.
