Press Release

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has monitored an assault on lawyer and human rights defender Izdihar Jumaa Saeed on October 25 by a group of masked men who intercepted her on her way home in Khartoum. The assault was brutal; Saeed was abducted and physically attacked before being left in a remote area.

Saeed was subsequently taken to Karima and Merowe hospitals for medical treatment, where she underwent a series of surgeries, the latest of which was performed on October 27 to treat multiple fractures. The surgery lasted several hours, and further procedures are still pending.

CFJ stresses that the attack on human rights lawyer Izdihar Saeed starkly reflects the ongoing security chaos plaguing the country. The committee expresses full solidarity with Saeed in her ordeal and urged Sudanese authorities to conduct an immediate, impartial, and transparent investigation into the incident and to hold those responsible accountable to ensure justice and prevent the perpetrators from escaping punishment.
