The Committee for Justice (CFJ) organized a specialized remote (online) training workshop titled “Digital Security Training Workshop for Human Rights Defenders in Sudan,” held over October 24 and 25, 2024.
The workshop aimed to provide Sudanese human rights defenders with the necessary skills and tools to enhance their digital security and online rights. This initiative is part of the committee’s broader efforts to support digital rights within the framework of human rights work in Sudan.
The workshop provided a comprehensive introduction to the concept of digital security and highlighted the importance of privacy and digital rights. It included various modules on safe internet usage and strategies to address digital risks that may compromise users’ safety and security. This training enabled participants to protect their personal data and develop effective mechanisms to strengthen digital security.
The course also covered detailed guidance on digital security protocols necessary for both individuals and organizations, with the goal of fostering a culture of digital security awareness. Participants were introduced to renowned international data protection standards, such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), giving them insight into global best practices in this area.
One of the workshop’s activities included open discussion sessions where human rights defenders shared the daily challenges they face regarding digital security. These discussions provided a platform for interaction between participants and experts, with proposed solutions being discussed and questions answered about best practices to protect against digital threats.
Through this workshop, CFJ human rights defenders in Sudan by equipping them with the tools necessary to safeguard their informational security. This training reflects the committee’s ongoing commitment to enhancing digital human rights and empowering defenders in facing the challenges of the digital age, contributing to building a safer rights-based environment on the internet.
