Sudan: CFJ documents army arrest of human rights lawyer Bakri El Mahi in Singa city

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the arrest of human rights lawyer Bakri El Mahi by security forces affiliated with the Sudanese Army Intelligence (Division 17) in Singa City, Sennar State.

According to CFJ, on April 12, 2024, a security force consisting of 3 SUVs raided Mahi’s house in the Qal’ah neighborhood of Singa City, arresting him and taking him to an undisclosed location.

Singa City in Sennar State, Sudan, has witnessed a series of arrests by the Sudanese Army and Rapid Support Forces targeting activists and human rights defenders. Earlier, the Sudanese Army arrested Communist Party leader and

Emergency Room volunteer in Singa City, Sennar State, Saif al-Dawla Jadid, as well as humanitarian activist Mohamed al-Hadi, known as “Hatab.”

CFJ expresses solidarity with Mahi and demands his immediate release by the Sudanese Army, along with ensuring a safe and conducive environment for his legitimate and peaceful work.
