Press release
Geneva – August 9, 2024
The Sudanese army’s Military Intelligence (Fourth Infantry Division) continues to detain journalist and human rights activist Sidiq Dalai in Blue Nile State, denying him any contact with his family or assurance of his well-being.
Dalai was arrested by Military Intelligence on May 15th, following the publication of an article in which he expressed solidarity with a victim who was allegedly executed by intelligence forces in Gezira State.
CFJ’ strongly condemns the arbitrary actions against Dalai, which appear to be linked to his professional work, and is demanding his immediate and unconditional release. CFJ also calls on all parties in the Sudanese conflict to respect press freedom and to ensure a safe and conducive environment for journalists and media professionals to carry out their legitimate and peaceful work.
