Press release

Geneva – April 14, 2024

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has voiced opposition to the arbitrary actions taken against Dr. Nizar Abu Zeid, the head of the “Basharat” organization in White Nile. The committee reported that Dr. Abu Zeid, who is also a member of the emergency room in “Kosti,” was arrested by a security force affiliated with the Sudanese police.

According to CFJ, Dr. Abu Zeid was detained on Friday, April 5th, 2024, and released the following day without any charges being brought against him. However, he was subsequently barred from entering shelters, a move that has caused considerable distress among displaced individuals and activists in the city.

CFJ rejects these arbitrary actions by the Sudanese authorities against Dr. Abu Zeid and demands their cessation. They call for the provision of a safe and conducive environment for his peaceful and legitimate volunteer work.
