Press Release

The United Nations Special Committee on Israeli Practices announced in a report released on November 14, 2024, that warfare methods employed by Israel in Gaza are consistent with the characteristics of genocide. The report detailed significant civilian casualties among Palestinians and life-threatening conditions imposed on the population.

The committee identified Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon of war, enforced through the blockade of Gaza and obstruction of humanitarian aid, as a major contributor to the worsening humanitarian crisis. Additionally, the report documented that Israeli military operations targeted civilian infrastructure, including homes, hospitals, and schools, further exacerbating the suffering of the civilian population.

The committee emphasized that these practices violate international humanitarian and human rights laws, necessitating accountability for those responsible. It called on the international community to take immediate action to halt these violations and to provide essential support to affected Palestinian civilians.

The Special Committee is composed of representatives from Malaysia, Senegal, and Sri Lanka. Established by the UN General Assembly in December 1968, it is tasked with assessing human rights conditions in the occupied territories, including the Golan Heights, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza.

This report comes amid escalating tensions and violence in the region, underscoring the urgent need for a just and peaceful resolution to the conflict that safeguards the rights of all parties and achieves lasting peace.
