Egypt: Committee for Justice Documents the Death of Detainee Dr. Amr Heikal Inside 10th of Ramadan Prison

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of political detainee Dr. Amr Abdel Nabi Mohamed Heikal, following years of detention, after his family was notified to collect his body from the hospital.

According to information documented by CFJ, Dr. Amr Heikal was subjected to enforced disappearance in 2020, before later reappearing in detention on charges related to joining a banned group, financing, and espionage. He remained detained in 10th of Ramadan Prison until the announcement of his death.

With this case, the number of deaths documented by the Committee for Justice since the beginning of 2026 inside prisons and detention facilities in Egypt has risen to 34 deaths, following the documentation of 60 deaths during 2025.
