The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of El‑Sayed Magdy Al‑Menshawy inside Sinbellawein Police Station in Dakahlia Governorate in August 2026, following his detention in connection with an altercation.

According to statements from his family members and several of his friends, Al‑Menshawy entered detention in good health and was not known to suffer from any prior medical conditions. His family was later informed of his death, amid allegations that he had been subjected to assault and torture during his period of detention.

The Committee for Justice stresses the importance of conducting a prompt, independent, and transparent investigation into all deaths occurring in places of detention, including a full examination of the circumstances surrounding the death and any allegations of ill‑treatment or torture.

With this case, the number of deaths documented by the Committee for Justice since the beginning of 2026 inside prisons and detention facilities in Egypt has risen to 52 deaths, following the documentation of 60 deaths during 2025.
