Egypt: Committee for Justice Documents the Death of a Detainee Inside Minya High‑Security Prison

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented the death of detainee Ahmed Hassan Ahmed Abu Zeid, a resident of Minya Governorate, inside his place of detention at Minya High‑Security Prison on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.

According to information documented by CFJ, Abu Zeid was being held in pretrial detention and was suffering from cancer, amid a deterioration in his health condition during his period of detention.

With this case, the number of deaths documented by the Committee for Justice since the beginning of 2026 inside prisons and detention facilities in Egypt has risen to 24 deaths, following the documentation of 60 deaths during 2025.
