Press Release

On December 25, 2024, the “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has documented the reappearance of human rights lawyer Fatima Al-Zahraa Gharib before the Supreme State Security Prosecution for investigation in Case No. 1282 of 2024.

According to the committee, the lawyer faces charges of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news, following the raid on her home by National Security forces on Friday, December 20, 2024. She was subsequently arrested and taken to an undisclosed location.

CFJ expresses strong condemnation of the enforced disappearance of Fatima Al-Zahraa Gharib, stating that it constitutes a flagrant violation of Egypt’s constitution and legal framework, as well as its international human rights commitments. CFJ calls on Egyptian authorities to end such systematic practices, ensure Gharib’s immediate release, and guarantee a safe and supportive environment for lawyers to carry out their work freely and effectively, without fear or intimidation.
