Geneva – June 30, 2024

The “Committee for Justice” (CFJ) has monitored that workers at a gas plant in the village of Al-Kalaleen, part of the Faqous district in Minya, Upper Egypt, have gone on strike to demand higher wages.

A local resident stated that the strike was initiated to advocate for an increase in the meager salaries of the workers.

CFJ calls on the plant’s management to open a dialogue with the workers to find solutions that ensure the smooth and safe operation of the facility. CFJ also urges the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower to intervene to protect workers’ rights and to implement the legal wage scale, ensuring their financial rights are upheld.
